Third airport in Istanbul
Mayor Kadir Topbas recently announced that following advice from the Prime Minister the new airport is set to be built in the Terkos Lake area of Istanbul. This airport is set to house five or six new runways and handle passenger numbers of 100 million in the short term which will increase to 150 million when in full service. The addition of this airport is to help cope with the vast number of tourists that choose to holiday in Turkey as the current Ataturk airport is proving to be insufficient with regards to coping with the city’s current air traffic.
The airport is to be built on a deserted area so as to preserve the natural environment and the work on the airport is due to begin before the end of the year.
