According to the Transportation and Infrastructure Minister of Turkey, the new high-speed metro train line that will connect the city to Istanbul Airport will be completed and open for use by the end of April next year.
When will the Metro line open?
Adil Karaismailoglu spoke after inspecting the on-going construction site of the metro line and confirmed that the first part of the project is nearing completion. The first part of the metro line will see the metro operate from the residential and highly central Kagithane district and the airport. The second phase of the line is planned to operate from the Halkali district to the airport, and is then due to be completed by the end of 2022.

Karaismailoglu said in a conference that: “4,500 personnel are currently working to complete the project. With the completion of the on-going projects, Istanbul’s metro network will reach 324 kilometres.” Istanbul is home to one of the most modern Metro lines in the world, connecting the city through all corners for those commuting and working.

The metro line will have the capability to take passengers all the way from the Eastern side of Istanbul and will arrive at the airport in just over half an hour later. The metro line is set to span 23.3 miles in length and will be made up of nine different stations. The line will also be the fastest metro currently in Turkey, operating at an impressive speed of just under 75 miles per hour for quick access through the city.
Where will the metro pass by in Istanbul?
The metro line will pass through various central and residential districts of Istanbul, including the sought after areas of Besiktas, Sisli, Kagithane, Eyup, and Armavutkoy. It is projected that the train is to be used by up to 600,000 Istanbul locals every day. The traffic load in Istanbul is expected to be significantly reduced once the metro is fully up and running.
