Turkey’s touristic hot spot on the Mediterranean, Antalya, hosted some 7.7 million tourists from around the world between January 1 and August 5, 2022, data supplied by the city’s governorate has stated.
This saw an increase of 91% during this period, compared to the same months of 2021 in the number of foreign tourists arriving in the city, where the health and safety tourism services have been offering Safe Tourism certificates.
In 2021, Antalya saw a total of 3.7 million foreign tourists coming into the city during the same seven months via air travel into Turkey.
A side-by-side comparison showed that the total number of foreign travellers coming to Antalya by air travel was 388,431 during the first five days of August this year, compared with the same five days last year when the city welcomed 311,089 travellers.
Antalya is booked through end of September
Tourism professionals, asked to comment on the higher flow of tourists to the city, stated that the reservations for August, especially in ‘deluxe’ and five-star hotels, were completely full and this continued through until the end of September. They added that this has made it difficult to find places to stay. A general manager at one of Antalya’s many five-star hotels stated that their Antalya hotels were fully booked.
The increased demand for Antalya hotels
One tour operator owner explained that around 80,000-90,000 people were entering Antalya each day, following his research into the tourism within the city and interviews of over 50 different hotels.
The tour operator clarified that: “Antalya hotels are currently experiencing the density that occurred in 2019”, while explaining many hotels that have no availability in Antalya are helping to direct those who are unable to find accommodation in Antalya to other destinations nearby.
Continuing, he said, "It looks like Antalya will experience one of its best seasons this year.”
