Plane in Turkey

A statement was released in March from the low-cost carrier Pegasus Airlines, one of Turkey’s airlines, detailing its financial results regarding 2022 and the plans for growth for the coming year.

Reports were filed with Public Disclosure Platform (KAP)

Reported to the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP), the airline showed that it had seen an increase of 33.7% in the total number of people flying with them – it was recorded that a total of 26.9 million individuals flew with Pegasus Airlines in 2022.

It was this growth that contributed to the significant increase in turnover, which reached 2.4 billion Euros, or $2.7 billion, an increase of 139%.

Net profits for the company and guests welcomed aboard

It was also reported by Pegasus Airlines that there was a net profit of 431 million Euros for 2022. The domestic routes for the airline accounted for 10.9 million guests, and the other 16 million guests welcomed onboard the airline flew international routes. Compared to the previous year, this showed a marked increase of 96.4% of international guests flying.

In addition, the revenue was reported by the airline to be TL 42.73 billion in 2022, equivalent to $2.26 billion, which was up from the TL 10.66 billion in the same period of the year before.

Increasing capacity and fleet sizes in the coming year

Plans were announced by the airline to increase the capacity by around 20% in 2023 compared to the current capacity in 2022. This increase includes the expansion of the fleet size from 96, seen in 2022, to 102 aircrafts by 2023.

The airline has aims by the end of 2023 to provide 86% of its total capacity for seats with next-generations fuel-saving airplanes.

Helping with the tragic earthquakes

The CEO of Pegasus, Guliz Ozturk, explained that despite the tragedy, efforts have been made by Pegasus Airlines to support the communities who have been affected. She said: “Since the first moment of the earthquake, we have carried out many activities within the scope of solidarity.”

Furthermore, she added that: "We have planned additional flights to support our citizens and aid organisations. We have provided the evacuation of 152,950 citizens with 785 evacuation trips. In addition, we have carried 111 tons of relief materials."

"We will get through these difficult days together, in solidarity," Ozturk further explained.
