British tourists flock to Aegean and Mediterranean coasts

Following a hiatus from the coronavirus pandemic and flights resuming between Turkey, and the United Kingdom, Turkey was the most favoured go-to place for British holidaymakers this summer.

The data was provided by TravelSupermarket, who are responsible for providing information regarding holiday packages on a comparative spectrum. The data showed that in 30% of all holiday searches in the UK, Turkey was the chosen holiday spot for September and October holidays.

Where are British tourists travelling to?

The province of Antalya, located on the Mediterranean coast, and all of its towns which include Alanya, Belek, Lara, Kemer, Kas, Side, and Kalkan are amongst the top touristic hot spots in Turkey for British travellers this summer. Dalaman in Mugla is the place where many British have made their home, along with the nearby towns of Oludeniz, Fethiye, and Marmaris. Istanbul also featured in the top areas searched by hopeful travellers looking to get a holiday in before winter.

Following Turkey, British travellers also searched for holidays in Corfu in the Greek islands, Rhodes, and the Italian capital of Rome for a city break.

What makes Turkey so attractive?

An expert from TravelSupermarket explained that Turkey has always been attractive to Brits travelling abroad, but is now even more so due to Turkey’s exclusion from the list of countries where arrivals have quarantine regulations, and of course the fabulous climate and famous food help too.

The Southern Aegean Touristic Hoteliers & Operations Association (GETOB) vice chairman, Tunc Batum stated that Turkey has taken so many measures during the pandemic, and that since the measures have been lifted, the demand for Turkish holidays now extends until November.

The chairman of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers & Operators Association (AKTOB) Erkan Yagci explained that for the past three years they have focused on the UK market. The UK is expected to stand aside Russia and Germany in the top three markets when it comes to tourists travelling to Turkey.
