10.5 million tourists arrive in Istanbul in 7 months

New official data released on Sunday showed that nearly 10.5 million tourists visited Istanbul during the first seven months of 2024 – representing a surge of 7% when compared with the same period last year.

 

Istanbul tourists continue to surge

Data released from the Istanbul Culture and Tourism Directorate showed that 10.47 million tourists visited Istanbul in the period from January – July 2024, compared to 9.77 million tourists in the same period in 2023.

One of the most popular months for visitor arrivals, July, also saw an increase in total number of visitors when comparing 2023 to 2024. 1.9 million visitors arrived in July 2024 compared to 1.87 million visitors in July 2023, an increase of 1.7% in peak month arrivals.

 

Arrivals by Air and Sea

In July, 1.83 million tourists arrived via Air while 72,000 arrived via Sea. Of those arriving via Air, 1.32 million arrived at Istanbul Airport, 507,500 at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, and 1,673 at Ataturk Airport.

192,018 visitors were Russians, 153,861 were Germans, and 114,412 were from the United States. Next on the list of arrivals were citizens from Saudi Arabia, Iran, the United Kingdom, France, Uzbekistan, the Netherlands, Iraq, and Italy.

 

July sees all-time high number of foreign visitors to Turkey

According to official data, Turkey welcomed 7.3 million foreign tourists during the month of July, an increase of 2.6% when compared to the previous year and an all-time high in number of single monthly visitors to Turkey.

Data also showed that between the period of January – July, Turkey welcomed 28.98 million foreign visitors in total, an increase of 8.27% compared to 2023. Adding to this was the arrival of 4.49 million Turkish citizens who visited Turkey from abroad, bringing the total figure to 33.47 million visitors.

 

Turkey targets 60 million visitors by year-end

Turkish authorities expect total visitor arrivals to top 60 million once the year has finished, bringing in more than 60 billion USD in revenue as tourism again proves how vital it is to Turkey’s success.
