
Data released by TurkStat shows that Internet usage in Turkey has reached 90.9% amongst people aged between 16 and 74 years old. This was an increase compared to last year where Internet usage amongst the same group was measured at 88.8%.
Following a survey on household information and communication technology use, TurkStat announced that Internet use in Turkey had reached record highs. Data showed that men use the Internet more often than women with 93.6% of men having online access, compared to 88.2% of women.
According to the information released, the rate of people accessing government websites and applications for public services increased to 76.1% overall. Looking deeper, people aged between 25 and 34 using e-government services reached 92.8%, compared to just 29.6% of people aged between 65 and 74.
The data showed that 68.5% of Turks are accessing e-government services to check their personal information from relevant public authorities, while 53.6% are utilising e-government services to make public institution appointments.
Turks using the Internet for e-commerce and online shopping increased to 55.7% overall this year, up from 51.7% of Turks last year. Data showed that 59.1% of men now use the Internet to order goods and services, compared to 52.3% of women.
People are also using the Internet in order to learn. Educational and professional learning activity usage increased to 17.7% of total Internet users in Turkey – 18% of men and 17.5% of women.
According to the data from TurkStat, WhatsApp was the most popular messaging app in Turkey during the past year with 88.6% of Internet users now using it. YouTube was second, visited by 72.9% of Internet users, followed by Instagram with 68.1% of Turkish Internet users accessing the social media app.
