The national carrier of Turkey, Turkish Airlines (THY), has announced that over 65 million passengers took THY flights during the first nine months of 2024 – up by 1.8% when compared to the same period in 2023.
According to data released by the airline, the number of passengers that flew with Turkish Airlines during the period of January – September totalled 65.07 million. The same period in 2023 saw 63.9 million people travel.
This resulted in Net Profit for the company reaching $2.71 billion USD by the end of September. Net Revenues increased by 7.8% from $15.8 billion USD to $17.1 billion USD on an annual basis. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, and rent reached $4.48 billion USD, according to the data released.
A statement released by THY, said: “Despite ongoing global geopolitical tensions, bottlenecks in aircraft production and engine problems, Turkish Airlines, which continues its operations uninterruptedly thanks to its operational agility and wide flight network, continued to grow in the third quarter of 2024.”
Turkish Airlines also reported that its total number of planes had reached 467 aircraft, up from 429 at the start of the year – an increase of 9% following the delivery of a large Airbus order. The company is currently in talks with Boeing to further expand its fleet.
The first nine months of the year saw average passenger occupancy rates reach 82.3% per plane, while the year-over-year volume of cargo and mail transferred increased by an impressive 26.5%. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), Turkish Airlines is now the third-largest air cargo carried in the world with a market share of 5.7%.
Turkish Airlines currently operates worldwide flights to over 130 different countries and 266 international airports. Domestically, THY flights arrive to more than 50 airports throughout the country.
