Is Bomonti a good place to live? Why buy Bomonti property

In the 20th-century Turkish operetta Life Deluxe, the librettos sang: "An apartment in Nisantasi, Sisli / If you don't have one / Then you are no one." Over a century later, this is still the case, with Sisli property being one of Istanbul's hottest real estate markets. However, one neighbourhood of Sisli stands out and attracts much attention for its quality of living.

The Sisli neighbourhood of Bomonti is just a stone's throw from the exclusive area of Nisantasi and three kilometres from Taksim Square, yet prices are still favourable. This old town built around a historic brewery has experienced mega-development, with several high-profile names taking advantage of lower land prices to make their mark on this esteemed area.

Investors liken Bomonti to London's Docklands. Once a wasteland of warehouses and breweries, development ensured that Docklands property is now some of Europe's most coveted and expensive. This happened in Bomonti as big names like Rixos, Trump, and the IC Residence staked their claim in Istanbul's most promising neighbourhood.

A municipality's push to improve infrastructure saw the rollout of the "7 Tepe, 7 Tunel" (7 Hills, 7 Tunnels) project. The main goal was to reduce traffic by developing tunnel systems in Istanbul's busiest districts. Hence, Bomonti connects via tunnel to Inonu Stadi neighbourhood between Ortakoy and Beyoglu, allowing residents and workers fast and easy access to central waterfront areas.

Of course, welcoming side effects of this initiative positively impacted property prices through the excellent transport links. City workers who want the convenience and prestige of an inner-city residence but don't want to pay eye-watering prices of nearby Nisantasi or Taksim flock to Bomonti.

Infrastructure works are ongoing, ensuring Bomonti's popularity and real estate prices continue to rise. Bomonti also connects to the rest of Istanbul via the metro system, with Osmanbey Station just one stop from Taksim Square Station.

The Historical Roots of Bomonti

Sisli was one of the fastest-growing residential areas in European Istanbul of the 20th century, and Bomonti was the district's industrial heart. The neighbourhood was named after a distinguished brewery in 1890 by the Bomonti Brothers of Switzerland. This beer factory was the first modern-style brewery of its sort in Turkey, and industry grew up around it, causing the area to thrive. Over time, the brewery extended, and a beer garden opened in the 1930s. Sadly, the factory produced the last brew in 1991.

Commercial Development of the Area

The Bomonti Brewery is still there today, a poignant reminder of Istanbul's industrial heyday. However, projects other than yeasty beverages have been brewing in the old beer factory, which, with a 250-million-euro injection from IC Investment, turned into a visitor hub with hotel venues, shops, markets, restaurants serving fine cuisine, a museum, and an arts centre.

And right next door, is the Hilton Hotel. The hotel chain attracts Istanbul's commercial and business travellers, who have risen sharply over twenty years as Istanbul excelled in commerce and finance. Hilton Istanbul Bomonti Hotel & Conference Centre is Istanbul’s largest hotel in by number of rooms and meeting space, providing world-class conference facilities to attract new international conference business.

Other big names attracted to up-and-coming Bomonti include Trump and Rixos. A Trump Towers mall opened last year, the final piece to a complex that already included residential and office units - again catering to growing business travellers.

The Centre of Business

Several office building projects also emerged as Istanbul gathered a reputation as Turkey’s regional business centre. Growing companies seeking headquarters for their business ventures seeked alternatives to overcrowded and overpriced Levent and Maslak.

Arista, an affiliate of Turkey's AR Group, rolled out a project for several new office blocks built around Istanbul costing more than 1 billion euros. This included 60 million euros on a 28-floor luxury office block in Bomonti with 85 offices.

But is Bomonti a Good Place to Live?

Putting aside investment and commercial districts, Bomonti is an excellent place to live in Istanbul. Nighttime dining and entertainment venue scenes earn much admiration. When ranking global food cities, Istanbul scores highly, and Bomonti added to its esteemed reputation for food experiences.

On Silhasor Road, out of Bomonti, Türk by Chef Fatih Tutak has achieved two Michelin stars for their Anatolian cuisine. The drive of this fine-dining restaurant to bring authentic dining experiences has paid off, as they quote, "Respect and protect the roots and traditions of our cuisine."

The Hilton hotel operates the Globe restaurant and Cloud 34, the rooftop bar serving sushi, Asian cuisine, and cocktail menus. Bomonti also holds the lifetime works of Turkey's most famous photographer in the Ara Guler Museum. His museum in Bomontiada Cultural Complex achieved all his work, giving an impeccable and exciting insight into Istanbul over the decades.

Meanwhile, Ferikoy Antiques Market, also called the Bomonti Antiques Market, every Sunday, sees enthusiasts from all over Istanbul flocking for the latest finds. Lastly, Yapı Kredi Bomontiada is the brewery that became a culture centre and exhibition space.  There are enough leisure and cultural destinations for Bomonti to exist in a world of its own, but should residents want more, the best of Istanbul is right on their doorstep, including Istanbul Cevahir shopping and entertainment centre, a short walk away.

In this massive city, it can be hard to know where to go, but just down the road from Bomonti is another high-profile destination, Nisantasi, where the demand for luxury living attracts foreigners from abroad. Indeed, if you are looking for an excellent place to live in Istanbul, Bomonti could be the ideal destination.
