About Gocek, Turkey

The first thing to know about Gocek, a little town in Turkey's Fethiye region, is that it is a secret on the mainstream tourism scene. Yet, those who often sail Mediterranean Turkey will testify as to its beauty and upmarket ambience. Backed by the Taurus Mountains range and fronted by the Mediterranean Sea, Gocek maintains a pleasing aesthetic look on the eye because local government laws forbid multi-storey buildings. Instead, all facilities must be two-storey or below.

Gocek offers everything tourists expect from a tourism centre but is much more tranquil than other areas of Turkey. Tourists who arrive by road, sea or air will be delighted with an excellent choice of boating, places to go, nearby beaches, plus numerous restaurants, cafes, and bars. If you want refined and upmarket but a destination that still embodies Turkish culture, Gocek ticks all the boxes.

About Gocek in Turkey

Getting to Gocek

Gocek sits on the D400 highway on Turkey's Mediterranean coast and is easily accessible by car. At one stage in the town's history, it was off the beaten track and hard to reach, but in 2006, the government completed the Gocek tunnel toll road. Officially belonging to the Mugla Province, the town covers the outskirts of the Fethiye region, so if arriving by bus, head to Fethiye or Antalya centre and from there catch a connecting bus. Belonging to a covered bay, many European travellers come into the tranquil and secure harbour from international waters. The nearest airport to Gocek is Dalaman, situated about 25 kilometres away from the resort. Book a shared shuttle transfer before arrival or use private transfer facilities for an additional fee.

Weather and Climate

Gocek's average temperature reached during winter is 14C (57F). During summer, temperatures reach as high as 45 degrees Celsius, but the sun shines for three hundred days per year. Gocek's agriculture industry stems from tangerines, lemons, and oranges because ideal soil and weather conditions combine perfectly. The only weather downside is the rainy season during February and March, but many expats living here use that time to recharge their batteries ready for summer.

Beaches and Sailing

One beach belonging to D-Resort Gocek is available for a daily fee or by taking out membership. Inlice beach on the Gocek's outskirts takes roughly ten minutes to reach by car. Other beaches such as Sarigerme, a long sandy beach, can be reached easily by car or taxi. Further down from Sarigerme is the protected beach of Iztuzu in Dalyan Delta, and the other direction goes to Oludeniz beach in about forty minutes. The only way to reach the main beach on the island is by water taxi.

A dominating characteristic of Gocek is the private bay that is home to several harbours and coves. Gocek is an arrival and departure point for all boats, yachts and liners, and sea traffic is hefty in the port. Gocek is a high-class sailing area with many charter boats, company sailing companies, larger vessels, and basic fishing boats. Jump on these to visit the Twelve Islands. Gocek coves and the 12 islands are heavenly hidden areas, with clear blue waters, lush green forests, and outstanding beaches, making Gocek a must in terms of destination. Today, Gocek has six marinas: Club Marina, Marinturk Gocek Village, Port Municipality Marinas, D-Marin Gocek, Marinturk Gocek Exclusive, and Skopea Marina.
