Official data from the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD) in Turkey shows that electric and hybrid cars in the Turkish automotive market now account for 45% of total car sales in the first half of the year H1.
The data shows that total car sales in Turkey from January to June 2025 increased by 5.4% when compared to the same period in 2024 – amounting to 488,003 cars sold throughout the country. Light commercial vehicle sales also increased by 4.3% to reach 119,974 units.
Of that, 229,128 sales were gasoline vehicles, 38,073 were diesel cars, and 3,222 were LPG-powered cars. Hybrid cars accounted for 131,686 car sales in Turkey, while fully electric car sales were recorded at 84,956 units – a collective market share of 44.6%.
Sales of gasoline cars fell by 25% during the first half of the year, while sales of diesel cars fell by 24% during the same time period. The data shows that fully electric car sales rocketed by 138%, sales of hybrid cars increased by 102%, and finally, LPG car sales increased by 6.9%.
The overall market share of gasoline cars fell from 66% to 47%. Diesel cars’ market share fell to 8%, while LPG vehicles’ share remains the same at 1%. Fully electric vehicles have now increased their overall market share to 17%, while hybrid vehicles’ overall market share has now risen to 27%.
The decline of diesel car sales has been attributed to the global phasing out of diesel vehicle production resulting in less diesel models entering the market.
Four out of ten cars now sold in Turkey are either fully electric or hybrid units as the country moves towards a greener and sustainable future with energy-efficient vehicles. In the month of June 2025 alone, 25,646 electric cars were sold along with 22,506 hybrid models, this accounts for 51.4% of total sales.
