Sabiha Gokcen Airport to introduce sleeping pods

Sabiha Gokcen Airport

In a bid to keep up with the new Istanbul Airport who recently opened a private area where passengers can rest between flights, Sabiha Gokcen Airport has announced that they will be offering a new form of sleeping pods for passengers to sleep during long connections at the airport.

What do sleeping pods offer?

The sleeping pods at Sabiha Gokcen Airport are available for rent at a minimal price of just seven euros per hour. For this, the traveller will have use of an Internet service, unlimited free hot drinks, a television to watch, and a bed to sleep.

Commercial Director of the airport, Yucel Ecer said that currently the airport has eighteen sleep pods for men, ten for women and one pod that is specifically available for families to use. Ecer also spoke about how excited the airport is to be one of the first airports in Turkey to roll out this new service for passengers.

How do sleeping pods in Turkey work?

When questioned about how the sleeping pods will work, Ecer explained that: “As passengers arrive, they do check-in procedures on devices specially produced for them.” He went on to elaborate by saying: “Passengers enter the lounge area using QR codes, and enter the sleep pods by putting their belongings in encrypted storage cabinets that have been reserved for them.”

Sleep Pod services at Istanbul Airport

The IGA sleep pod service at Istanbul Airport offers a different experience to that at Sabiha Gokcen Airport. The sleep pod service at Istanbul Airport is in the quietest and calmest area of the airport. The pods are available to rent for 9 euros per hour, and although marginally more expensive than the facilities at Sabiha Gokcen Airport, passengers are provided with freshly laundered blankets included in the cost. They are also additional blankets and pillows available for a cost of just 2 euros.

To ensure cleanliness, staff at Istanbul Airport will send all bedding to be dry cleaned after each person has left. The needs of passengers are the focus, with the sleeping cabins offering a USB port and outlet meaning passengers can not only operate but also charge their phone and other electric devices.

Located at the bottom of the sleeping pods, passengers also have room to store their luggage. The sleeping pods are just one of the facilities airports worldwide are introducing after realising the changing needs of travellers.
