Quarter 1 tourism figures in Antalya up by 25% in 2019

One of the leading tourist destinations in Turkey, Antalya continues to post increasing visitor numbers with a 25% growth of foreign tourists visiting the city in the first three months of 2019, compared to the same period the year before.

Thanks to the support of tourists the city has continued to develop further, as well as remaining a favourite choice for global investors and Turkish real estate buyers, which also give the area a huge boost.


TurkStat and Antalya property

Data released from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) show Antalya standing in second place with regards to foreign Turkish property sales, only being beaten by Istanbul. Sales in the first quarter of 2019 have seen a colossal 47% increase when compared to the same time the year before.


Tourist numbers in Antalya

In the past three months, foreign tourists visiting Antalya topped 571,207, an increase of 25% when compared with the same time the year before according to data made available by the Antalya Airport Administrative Authority. Last year the city recorded an all-time high by hosting over 13.6 million foreign tourists and 3 million local visitors. The figures expected this year have already been revised from an expected 15 million foreign tourists to 16 million and we are only in the fifth month of the year.


Where are the tourists coming from?

In the period up to the end of March 2019, there were 151,391 tourists visiting from Germany, which is an 8% increase on the same period in 2018. Germany was closely followed by Russia whose tourist numbers were up by 7.4% to 136,689 visitors. Tourists from the United Kingdom took third spot with a 58% increase in tourist numbers that totalled 36,791.

Antalya follows Istanbul and Ankara when it comes to foreign residents’ per capita income. Eurostat recently reported that the general per capita income for Antalya stands at 8,200 euros, which equates to approximately 9,219 USD. Antalya is also an import trade centre for the economy in Turkey and currently makes up 67% of Turkish exports to European Union countries.
