Two new Blue Flag Beaches awarded in Turkey The Karasu district in the province of Sakarya in Turkey was recently presented with two blue flags for beaches in the area. The blue flag relates to the cleanliness of the beach as well as the health of the sea. The metropolitan municipality mayor of Sakarya, Ekrem Yuce said that it is his aim to now obtain blue flag status for Koccali and Kaynarca beaches.11 August 2019
Tourists flock to the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul The Grand Bazaar is a landmark in the Fatih district of Istanbul. Known as the world’s oldest bazaar, it has been under threat of closure due to the dwindling number of foreign tourist visitors in the past few years. However, there has been a noticeable increase in footfall and the bazaar has started to regain its previous glory.07 August 2019
Hopes for Turkish lira as it defies the odds Turkey's lira took a beating last year. Losing 50 percent of its value against the dollar meant inflation took a hit, soaring sky high. Since May, however, the lira has climbed slowly back up, and Turkish bonds garnered healthy returns. Rare Turkish bee stowaway sparks international outcry A rare bee that stowed away in a British tourist's suitcase and built colourful petal sacks in their conservatory has sparked an international outcry after British officials ordered its destruction. The osmia avosetta was discovered in 2009 on a remote Turkish mountain. British officials fear it could threaten native bees, which are in decline.26 July 2019
Turkey and Canada agree to increase investment and trade Ruhsar Pekcan, Trade Minister for Turkey and Jim Carr, the Canadian Trade Minister met in Japan at the beginning of June at the G20 Ministerial Meeting on Trade and Digital Economy. It was here where the two ministers signed the joint Economic and Trade Commissions MoU. This joint understanding aims to strengthen current trade ties.26 July 2019

Industry insiders predict Turkish tourism surge Turkey will wrap up 2019 with some good news from the tourism sector: experts are predicting a 10 percent rise in the number of tourists visiting Turkey. Turkey's largest city, Istanbul, and the southern Mediterranean city of Antalya are the preferred destinations, each welcoming record numbers of visitors.21 July 2019
Property sales in Turkey continue to soar in 2019 Turkey’s property market continues to rise with real estate sales to foreigners in May being the highest ever. As a result, the market has enjoyed the highest foreign sale figures month-on-month since the beginning of the year with June continuing to impress.20 July 2019
11% Increase in Foreign Visitors to Turkey in 5 months In the first five months of this year, the number of foreign visitors arriving to Turkey showed a huge increase of 11.3% year-on-year according to statistics from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. In total, almost 12.8 million foreigners visited Turkey from January to May this year in comparison with 11.5 million recorded for the same time last year.20 July 2019
Antalya Airport sees highest rise of passengers in all of Europe Welcoming over 25 million passengers last year, Antalya Airport reported the highest increase in all European airports. Ilgaz Arnaz, the Operations and Security director at Fraport TAV Antalya Airport confirmed that: “Antalya saw the highest increase in the number of passengers with a 21.1% rise in 2018."09 July 2019
Kusadasi Welcomes 40 Cruise Ships from January to May From January to May this year, the Ege Port located in Kusadasi, in the Aegean province of Aydin played host to forty cruise ships in total. Due to this, Ege Port is currently ranked as the number one port in Turkey with regards to the number of passengers and number of ships entering and exiting the country.07 July 2019

An HSBC survey has placed Turkey at seventh place, up from its 22nd place ranking last year. The country has made a huge effort in the past few years to make itself foreigner-friendly, easing regulations around visas, property buying and living.
