The head of the provincial culture and tourism directorate, Tamer Erdogan, has confirmed that Trabzon is experiencing high demand and has seen an increase in the number of European tourists visiting during the current season.

Erdogan began by saying: “All of the Gulf countries are showing interest in our city. Recently, we have also seen growing interest from European countries, notably the Netherlands, Italy, France and Germany.”


Official statistics show an increase of 79%

Based on the latest official statistics, the number of foreign tourists who visited Trabzon from January to July this year amounted to approximately 400,000, marking a significant increase of 79% from the same period last year.

Turkey's tourism industry is a crucial contributor to the country's economy, and the government under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is determined to address the current account deficit by boosting tourism revenue and tackling inflation.


Surge of visitors to Trabzon in July

Trabzon, a city in Turkey, experienced a noteworthy surge in tourism during the month of July. The city welcomed a staggering number of 192,892 foreign visitors, indicating a remarkable increase of 112% compared to the same period last year. When domestic travellers were added to the mix, the total number of tourists reached an impressive 268,427, representing a substantial 81% growth from July 2022.

This surge in tourism can be attributed to the city's numerous well-known attractions, which include the stunning Uzungol, a picturesque lake situated in the foothills of the Pontic Mountains, and the renowned Sumela Monastery, a Byzantine-era monastery that is perched atop a cliff. With so much to offer, it is no wonder that Trabzon is quickly becoming a top destination for travellers from all over the world.

He continued to say: “Our guests enjoy taking boat rides along the coastal areas to experience different destinations. This trend revitalises Trabzon, enhancing both alternative tourism and maritime tourism.”
