2.5 Million tourists visit Antalya from January – September

New statistics released have confirmed that despite the COVID-19 pandemic, 2.5 million visitors have visited Antalya on the Mediterranean coast in Turkey. Experts in the tourism industry strongly believe this is due to the campaign that has been run to assure tourists health and safety is paramount in Turkey.


Safe Tourism Certification Program

The Culture and Tourism Ministry were responsible for the “Safe Tourism Certification Program” and most of the tourist facilities in Turkey have joined the program. This program was set up to provide some form of certification for all venues used by tourists such as: airports, hotels, and beaches. This program has made it possible for greater travel particularly now that international flights have been allowed again.


Tourism numbers in Antalya

The tourism sector in Antalya is well-known worldwide for its stunning beaches, natural beauty, historical and cultural monuments, and outstanding luxurious facilities that are on offer for travellers. During the past nine months, January through to September, over 2.5 million foreigners have chosen to holiday in Antalya.


Professional Hotel Managers Association

The head of POYD (Professional Hotel Managers Association) Ulkay Atmaca said how thrilled Turkey was as a country to play host to so many visitors this year, particularly as the entire world is struggling with COVID-19. He went on to say that getting to a figure of 2.5 million tourists is outstanding as many facilities are closed and international flights were suspended until about three months ago.


The Safety of Tourists in Turkey

Turkey has taken drastic measures to make sure any tourists choosing to visit Turkey can be assured that they will be safe, and that their health is a number one priority. This was great for the tourists visiting the country, but it was also crucial that the health of the employees at the resorts was also as important.


Where are the Tourists from?

Kaan Kavaloglu, the Vice Chairperson of the Mediterranean Touristic Hoteliers Association said that visitors had come predominantly from Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and from Russia. Kavaloglu also said that they are expecting a prolonged season particularly as Turkey is such a significant place to visit around the world. He went on to say: “Turkey was the first choice of travellers from European countries along with those coming from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).”
