Holiday homes for sale in Turkey

Buying a holiday home overseas is many years’ savings for most of us thus we ought to make sure that we have chosen not only the right country but the right location within that country. Turkey is now one of the top destinations in the Mediterranean for foreign nationals buying overseas holiday homes. It is almost at par with Italy in terms of popularity and investment. Holiday homes for sale in Turkey range from bargain properties on the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts of Turkey to luxury holiday houses in higher-end areas such as Bodrum, Kalkan, Gocek, Kas and Kemer in Antalya.

Where should you buy a holiday home in Turkey?

When considering buying a holiday home in Turkey, one needs to assess one’s comfortable budget so that one’s place in the sun does not need an unserviceable mortgage, this sort of would defeat the purpose. Once we have established our budget for our holiday property, then our suggestion is to take a good look at our lifestyle requirements such as are we water babies looking for sandy beaches and plenty of swimming in the sea or are we foodies looking for areas where some of the best cuisine is found. Have you got young children, who will need to be entertained and appropriately socialised when on holiday. Are you keen sailors looking for plenty of boating and yachting around the Mediterranean or are you more than content to sit by the pool and just watch the world go by. Needless to say when looking for holiday houses for sale, you should also consider costs of managing and maintaining your holiday property. If you should only use your holiday home in Turkey several weeks a year, then should it sit idle the rest of the time or should it pay its own way and leave a positive income through holiday lets and weekly rentals. All these are important considerations when deciding where to look for your holiday home for sale in Turkey. Here are some suggestions below.

For the more sophiticated holiday resort in Turkey look at Bodrum

Vibrant and year round Bodrum offers some of the best sailing in Turkey and certainly the most upmarket beach clubs and restaurants. Bodrum is a sophisticated area that offers something for everyone. Compared to say Marmaris, Altinkum and Alanya, holiday properties for sale in Bodrum are more expensive but for very good reasons too. Rental returns are also pretty strong and there are excellent sea views to enjoy.

Fethiye is your affordable second home in Turkey where sun shines 320 days a year

is a small yachting town with amazing marina facilities and some rather expensive holiday homes for sale close to the marinas. However, if you are looking for an active place with the sophistication of say Bodrum, then Gocek will not live up to your expectations. Neighbouring is a mixed bag of concepts and landscapes. It is a very versatile area with mountains, rivers, hidden nature reserves, amazing climate, beaches and of course the Blue Lagoon. Fethiye scores top marks on our Turkish holiday homes chart. Compared to Bodrum, far more affordable and you are likely to enjoy the benefits of having a larger plot around your holiday house too. Around Hisaronu and Ovacik areas as well as on Calis Beach rental returns are excellent so a huge box is ticked there.

For fine dining and picture perfect views buy a holiday home in Kalkan

Then there is idyllic and panoramic Kalkan, which is Turkey’s answer to Italy’s Positano arguably with better sea views and more modern luxury holiday homes for sale. In recent years some excellent architectural works have been created in Kalkan, holiday houses that enjoy spectacular views from all rooms with contemporary designs and luxurious features. Kalkan is a fair distance from the nearest airport, therefore if you are looking for a holiday home to buy in Turkey near airports, then check out the distance first. It is also said that the best cuisine in Turkey is served in Kalkan. Being small town, Kalkan is very seasonal and closes after October. Rental returns are spectacular, close to 10% per annum for some holiday properties. Neighbouring Kas is very similar to Kalkan yet with a more bohemian and traditional feel.

A home in Antalya is not just for sun-soaked holidays

No mention of Turkey’s holiday homes are ever complete without discussing Mediterranean Antalya. Antalya is a large county with many features and offerings ranging from beaches to golf, skiing, trekking, buzzing nightlife, quiet nature reserves, calm mountains and plenty more. Some of the most desirable and affordable holiday homes to buy in Turkey are located in Side and Konyaalti districts of Antalya. Antalya city itself doubles up as a holiday home destination as well as a superb investment location due to year round living and ever increasing profile, which reflects in real estate prices.
