The Adnan Kahveci neighbourhood in Istanbul’s Beylikdüzü district has ranked as Turkey’s second most populated neighbourhood, with its resident count reaching 111,164. Data from the Address-Based Population Registration System shows that Adnan Kahveci remains the most densely populated neighbourhood in Istanbul and trails only Bağcılar in Diyarbakır, which recorded 160,136 residents.
Beylikdüzü’s total population stands at 422,988 across its 10 neighbourhoods, meaning nearly one in four residents live in Adnan Kahveci. The neighbourhood’s population exceeds that of several Turkish provinces, including Bayburt, Tunceli and Ardahan, and surpasses the populations of a number of districts both in Anatolia and within Istanbul, including Şile, Adalar and Çatalca.
Adnan Kahveci is largely composed of high-rise residential buildings and large-scale housing complexes. Located near the border with Büyükçekmece, the area has become increasingly popular due to its transportation links and manageable parking conditions.
Local officials note that despite its population density, the neighbourhood does not experience constant street congestion. Many residents live within gated complexes that offer private parking, landscaped areas, and green spaces – reducing visible crowding.
Neighbourhood head Arzum Albayrak said the layout of the area helps absorb the high population, saying: “Our neighbourhood has 50 avenues and 109 streets. Its area is not very large, but with high-rise buildings and complexes, the population remains dense. We measure our strength not by numbers, but by the solidarity within the neighbourhood.”
Albayrak also emphasised the role of community cohesion and unity in managing such density. She said: “Challenges are opportunities. We invest significant effort and see the results in return.”
The latest figures show how certain urban neighbourhoods in Istanbul now rival smaller provinces in population size, reflecting the city’s expansion and the sustained demand for residential living in well-connected districts such as Beylikdüzü.
